The Executive Council

Executive Council 2019-2020

The Bachelor of Global and International Studies (BGInS) Students' Executive Council are elected members of the BGInS Students' Society who facilitate the academic and social events of students enrolled in the program. ​

Executive Profiles

Maximillian Lee
President
​
Maximilian Lee, or Max for short is a third-year student within the Global Law and Social Justice specialization. Max has been a aprt of the student society since his first year being the first-year representative and the VP Academic and Administration. Originally form Vancouver, Max came to Carleton for opportunities to work in government and to experience a new place to live. He has a cat and a dog that he loves very much, but truth be told, he’s more of a cat person. When he’s not studying for finals or writing papers, Max enjoys listening to his record collection at home and just vibing out. He’s a big fan of 80s pop and hip hop music. If you see him in the halls, give him a shout and he’ll always be glad to talk to you.

Rodala Aranya
Vice President Media & Communications

​Rodala is in her second year specializing in Global Development with a minor in economics. Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Rodala moved to Ottawa excited to get closer to the political and non-governmental scene. At Carleton University, Rodala also acts as the VP Advocacy for Engineers without Borders, a nonprofit that seeks to address the crucial causes of poverty/inequality and spends her free time making Kahoots for her role as an Econ PASS facilitator. Taking advantage of the capital, Rodala has become heavily involved with Youth Climate Lab, an NGO aimed to empower youth in tackling climate change. With a passion for climate action and policy, indigenous rights and sovereignty, ethics in the development industry, and international law and human rights, Rodala is hoping to hone her skills during her undergrad. If needed, you can catch her blowing all her money at Black Squirrel buying books and “treating” herself to a spanakopita every single visit, making Instagram stories for the society, or catering to her many plants now overflowing her room.

Graeme Postma
Vice President Finance & Sponsorship

Graeme is in his last year of his undergraduate degree specializing in International Economic Policy with this being his second year on the society as VP Finance. Throughout his years at Carleton, Graeme has been involved both inside and outside the classroom. Some favorites of his include volunteering for Student Energy Carleton or being the Undergraduate Rep for the Senate Academic Program Committee. His past opportunities during the summer including interning for a social entrepreneur in Lima, Peru and working for a lawyer have allowed him to engage in a wide varieties of subjects. In his free time, Graeme enjoys taking in nature by hiking, in any season, and cooking. After university, Graeme is interested in pursuing law, economics or finance.​

Gemma Patey
Vice President Social

Gemma is a second year student specializing in Global Politics, and is delighted to return to the BGInS Students’ Society as Vice President Social. Originally from the small town of Georgetown, Ontario, Gemma was drawn to Ottawa by the presence of our political institutions and international organizations. She is very passionate about working with people, and is interesting in pursuing further education in politics regarding the environment and climate change. At Carleton, Gemma is also a Faculty of Public Affairs Ambassador and a Residence Fellow, demonstrating her love for interacting with new and prospective students. Outside of school, Gemma worked as a Federal Constituency assistant in her hometown and organized an all-candidates debate for the 2019 federal election in her riding. In her limited free time, she enjoys painting, spending quality time with the people she loves, and eating bagels, sometimes all at once.

Harry Scannell
Vice President Academics & Administration

Harry Scannell is a third year BGInS student, specializing in Global law and Social Justice. Experiencing the hardships of academics in his first year of university, Harry developed the drive to assist his fellow students by joining the executive committee as VP academic and creating events to increase learning opportunities. Born and raised in the UK, Harry is a duel citizen that has always been interested in global affairs. He loves connecting with people and learning about cultures that are unlike his own. After interning in his uncles legal office, Harry gained a passion for the legal realm, and hopes to pursue it in the future. In his free time, Harry can be found around the city, trying to come to a decision as to the best shawarma in Ottawa. He is an avid West Ham United fan, and loves playing soccer.

Gofaone Katso Ramodimoosi
First Year Representative

Born in Botswana and raised everywhere else in the world Katso is eager to be a part of the Global Development stream in the BGInS Program. Having spent a majority of her life living abroad Katso is looking forward to incorporating the social and cultural experience she acquired as a third culture kid to her studies. According to Katso, family, volleyball, learning languages, and bad reality TV are a the best ways to spend any free time.
Mara Caldwell
​Second Year Representative

Excited to be part of the amazing BGInS team, Mara is a second year student specializing in International Law and Social Justice with a minor in History. Being a dual citizen and having spent half of her life overseas, she is persistently eager to put this world at arm’s reach for herself. She hopes to one day work as a lawyer for international humanitarian or armed conflict law. Taking advantage of the countless opportunities at Carleton she is a Director of Campaign and Research for Engineers Without Borders and a competitive delegate for the Model UN society. If she’s not wandering around the glebe looking for her potential study spot or trying to earn a Michelin star in her own kitchen, you’ll probably catch her chasing the 7 - St. Laurent or slurping the best bowl of Pho in town with her friends.

SAhana Kapur 
Third Year Representative

​MSAhana is a third-year student specializing in Global Law and Social Justice. Having lived in Burlington, Ontario all of her life, she was extremely excited to join the BGInS program as it would allow her to open her mind to new, worldly perspectives and live in a different city. Putting this application to the test, she spent her International Experience Requirement in Mumbai, India, where she worked with a NGO that’s purpose was to empower female sex workers within the community. Because of this life changing experience, she became committed to aiding the students in designing the best IER suitable for them; this is the main reason she ran for Third Year Representative. Outside of school, SAhana trains vocally in classical and jazz music, and has had an active role in the musical theatre community.

Noah Hollis
Fourth Year Representative
​
Having previously served as both first-year representative and president, Noah is delighted to return to the students' society this year as your fourth-year representative. A born and raised Maritimer at heart, Noah specializes in Global Politics with a minor in history and is completing his Honours Research Essay on the deteriorating relationships between public school teachers and regional governments in North America. Noah has worked in several departments on campus, including Undergraduate Recruitment and the Registrar's Office, and spent last winter living in northern Sweden on an internship with the Global Greens. With a passion for sustainability and serving the community, Noah has previously worked in the offices of Elizabeth May and the Green Party of Canada and hopes after graduating to pursue a career in environmental law. When he has free time, Noah enjoys playing piano, bass, and saxophone and writing op-eds for the Charlatan.
